Ground Attack Operations

Know what you’re hitting and how you’ll leave before you start aiming.

Decide what needs hitting

Look at the tactical map before choosing between a convoy, depot, artillery battery or tactical missile system. Hit supplies to slow the enemy’s support, or deal with a defense that’s stopping your team from reaching its target.

Convoys can change destination. Find the vehicles again as you approach instead of dropping on an old marker.

Give the weapon what it needs

Setting up the attack
WeaponBefore firingWhen to break off
Unguided bombs or rocketsIdentify the target, line up and use the sights your aircraft has.You can’t line up without crossing active defenses or getting too close to the ground.
Laser-guided weaponKeep the target designated and visible while the weapon needs guidance.Terrain or your turn will block the view before impact.
TV- or infrared-guided weaponGet a reliable seeker lock and check the launch conditions. The seeker won’t lock the target or keeps losing it.
Anti-radiation missileFind a radar emission the missile can track and leave room to turn away. The radar switches off or you have to keep closing on the site to get a shot.

Plan the way out before the drop

Choose your escape direction before opening the targeting view. Keep enough speed and ground clearance to make the turn. If you miss the release, leave the defended area and set up again rather than circling over the target.

Some weapons still need you after launch. Keep the required guidance going while you can, but if you have to defend, accept that the shot may miss.

Check what you actually hit

Look for a destruction message and check the target on the map. A hit may leave a building standing, and a radar that stops transmitting may still be alive.

The October 5 changes gave supply columns 50% more cargo, increased factory supply production by 25% and added 50% more storage at tactical assembly depots. One convoy kill may not cut the supply line; check whether more are getting through.
